Why should I join Golden key International Honour Society?
Membership in Golden Key International Honour Society is a prestigious opportunity for the top 15 percent of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Golden Key offers members over $600,000 in scholarships as well as a range of unique discounts. Members can also participate in a broad range of social activities, community service initiatives and career enrichment programs.
When and where was Golden Key founded, and by who?
Golden key International Honour Society was founded by a group of undergraduate students and faculty members at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 29, 1977.
How long has Golden Key been around in the Asia Pacific?
Golden Key has been around in Australia since 1993, in New Zealand since 1999 and in Malaysia since 1998.
After graduation, will I continue to receive benefits?
Yes, the following benefits will remain available to Members after graduating from their undergraduate degree:
* A number of scholarship programs including $10,000 (USD) worth of scholarships to fund postgraduate research.
* Golden Key will continue to stay in touch with you after your graduation to remind you of member benefits. Just remember to update your contact information with Golden Key at least once a year online.
* Some members who have graduated continue to be involved with their university’s Golden Key Chapter.
* Golden Key alumni members are still eligible for select member discounts and promotions after graduation.
* Golden Key promotes career vacancies that may be relevant to alumni members.
* Members will have access to the Golden Key Financial Education Program, an independent, non-product aligned education program, designed to help users take control of their finances and plan for a secure future.
Do I need to be a Golden Key Member to be involved in Golden Key activities?
It depends on the activity and is up to the discretion of the Chapter President.
Are postgraduate students allowed to join?
In Australia and New Zealand, only postgraduate coursework students are eligible. Eligible candidates are required to be in the top 15% of their peers based on their results from the previous academic year or semester.
What are the requirements for membership?
* Membership into the Society is by invitation only, based solely on academic results.
* Offer of membership is extended to the top 15% of all undergraduate students who have completed their first year of full-time study or part-time equivalent.
* The top 15% of postgraduate coursework students can also be invited based on their results from the previous academic year or semester.
To join online, I need a credit card. If I don’t have a credit
card or access to a credit card how else can I pay my fee?

I would like to pay with my credit card but I do not feel comfortable
giving my details online. How else can I apply without applying online?
Call APHQ Headquarters and speak to a staff member. You can then either fax a copy of the form with your credit card details or post it out to us as per the address above. Please be assured that our online joining system is very safe and is also a quicker way to register.

I meet the Golden Key requirements but I haven’t received an invitation. What do I do?
Please contact APHQ for further information.
There are several reasons why this may have occurred:
* If you recently moved, your letter may have been mailed to the wrong address.
* You may have requested the registrar’s office to not release your name and address.
* For some reason unknown to us, the registrar’s office did not provide us your name or address.
* Your letter of invitation may have been sent to your permanent address.
* The invitation could be lost in the mail.
Do I have to pay annual membership dues?
No. There is only one membership fee that is paid when an individual joins.
The membership fee is:
* Australia - $95.00 (AUD)
Subject to change at the discretion of Asia Pacific Head Office
How is the membership fee used?
The membership fee is shared between the local chapter and Golden Key Headquarters. The membership fee funds membership benefits and supports local chapters in a variety of ways including:
* Local chapter scholarships
* Society scholarships for Members
* Induction ceremony and reception
* Local academic, service and social activities
* Publications
* Local and regional leadership training conferences
* International Conference
* Headquarters support to chapters (staff support, mailings, technology, benefits development,public relations)
I think I may already be a member. How can I find out for sure?
If you have recently joined please check your email for the email confirmation of your membership. Member IDs are not posted out so make sure when filling in your details you add your email address. If you are still unsure, please contact APHQ for assistance.

I’m already a member but I have not heard anything from the society, why not?
* It is important that both your chapter’s Executive Committee and Golden Key Headquarters know that you wish to remain connected with us and that we have your most current contact information.
* Ensure that we have your correct information by updating your contact information via the Golden Key website: www.goldenkey.org.
* You should also attend any local chapter programs or meetings. This is often how the local chapter knows that you wish to be actively involved with the chapter.
I am already a member of another honour society. Does that mean
I am already a member of Golden Key? Are these organisations related?
Golden Key is not affiliated with any other honor societies, therefore it is necessary for you to accept membership using the Golden Key invitation you received to obtain your membership in this society.
If I transfer from one university to the other,
could I have my details transferred?
Yes you can, so long as the university you have transferred to has a charter with Golden Key and has a Golden Key Chapter.
What does Golden Key do on campus?
Golden Key runs a range of professional development workshops, informative seminars, networking events, social events and provides opportunities for service to the local community.
The chapter also provides opportunities for selected students to attend domestic and international leadership conferences as well as providing opportunities for scholarships, paid employment and work experience.
How does Golden Key help me with jobs and internships?
Golden Key partners with corporate and nonprofit organisations, offering members internship and career opportunities.

What is Golden Key?
Golden Key is the world's largest academic honour society. Membership into the Society is by invitation only, to the top 15% of undergraduate and postgraduate students in each respective discipline.
Golden Key has chapters at over 375 colleges and universities in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, The Bahamas and the United States.
Golden Key is a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
When and how was Golden Key founded?
Golden Key National Honor Society was founded by a group of undergraduate students and faculty members at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 29, 1977. In 2001, the society modified its name to Golden Key International Honour Society to reflect its diversity and global presence. The spelling of “Honour” was utilised to observe the more globally accepted spelling.
What exactly is an honor society, and why haven't I heard of Golden Key before?
Honor societies have been recognised by universities in the United States for more than two centuries. The primary role of an honor society includes providing academic recognition to high-achieving students and establishing professional and social contacts for these students within a network of universities. Honor societies also bring together students from diverse faculties and degree programs within each university and reinforce students’ interaction with university staff.

Who are Golden Key members?
Golden Key membership has grown to a very large network of nearly 2 million members from over 190 countries. Members include students from all over the world, faculty members, university staff, university presidents, teachers, doctors, engineers, social workers, entrepreneurs, politicians, military leaders, and many more. There are also many prominent figures who are members.
How is Golden Key Governed?
* Board of Directors (consisting of college/university presidents and vice presidents, higher education leaders, corporate leaders, Golden Key student and alumni members and founding members)
* International Leadership Council (president, vice president, secretary, alumni member and student member, elected by chapter voting delegates)
* Council of Advisors (one advisor serves as a member of the Council of Advisors for each region)
* Council of Student Members (one student member serves as a member of the Council of Student Members for each region)
* Volunteer chapter executives at the Nathan and Gold Coast campus
As I was filling out my application to join Golden Key, my field of study was not listed.
Will this affect my membership in any way?
No. It is just a way for us to know a little more about you. Just select the closest option to your field of study.
How long is my invitation to becoming a Golden Key member valid?
Your invitation is valid for 12 months from the date you were invited.
I joined last year and I received another invitation this year.
Do I have to join and pay membership fee again?
No, you don’t have to pay another fee to become a Golden Key Member. You are only required to pay the Golden Key membership joining fee at the point when you joined the Society. There may be several reasons why you received another invitation:
* Your name on our record, as you provided to us previously, does not perfectly match what the registrar recently provided us. Please disregard the invitation you received this year.
* If you recently changed your name, we are not able to tell if you are a member. Please disregard the invitation and update your information with us at ww.goldenkey.org.
* You are now at another university and we did not know that you transferred. Please update your information with us online.
I don’t have any money to join now? What can I do?
Your invitation is valid for 12 months.
Where can I find details of my chapter’s New Member Reception?
You will find the details in your invitation letter and on the website: www.goldenkey.org. Your Chapter President will have the relevant date for you.
What happens if I join after the deadline,
will I still be able to receive my certificate on the night?
If you join after the deadline your certificate can not be guaranteed for the Reception. You can still attend and you will receive a generic certificate. The official certificate will be posted to you after the Reception.
